Sustainable fish meets three main standards:
1. The quantity of a fish species must be in order in such a way that species can maintain itself through reproduction.
2. The fishing method must spare the environment as much as possible.
3. The fishing technique must be able to fish as precisely as possible with as little unwanted by-catch in the nets as possible.
The main challenge for the Dutch fishing industry is to find a balance between making a well-earned sandwich by selling fish on the one hand and careful management of the fish stocks on the other, so that there is enough fish for the next generations. The fishing industry is working hard to increase the supply of 'responsible fish'. Numerous activities have taken place in recent years in the field of corporate social responsibility.
